2016-17 Team
12/8/16
Semifinals Loss

The Cardinals once again struggled to generate any offense against the much more aggressive and physical play from the Vikings of Palo Alto. They managed a measly, barely registrable 5 points in the first half on 19 shots. In fact the Cardinals were held without a Field Goal, scoring all their points from the charity line (Fts 5/6).

As the saying goes, "the team with the most points, usually wins."

Regardless, the underwhelming offensive performance was not due to a lack of effort. The Cardinals early on created several opportunities to put the ball in the basket including layup attempts and open jump shots. Shots that were made the night before, just weren't falling this game.

Credit the Vikings though. The relentless full court pressure forced the inexperienced Cardinals out of their comfort zone and into playing at a speed they are not accustomed to playing. Going forward (and especially when the Cardinals face a certain not-to-be named team that has haunted the Cardinals over the years), the Cardinals will have to show more poise under pressure and better offensive execution when the games count the most. Last night was a humbling preview of what is to come.

Nice contributions tonight from freshmen, Nathan L. (3 pts 1rb 1stl 1blk), Rishi R. (4 pts 1rb 1stl) and rebounding monSTAR Hong C. (3 rbs).

The Cardinals return to action Friday against Aragon HS in the Burlingame Tourney's 3rd Place game.
