Despite Taming Mustangs, Lowell Drowned By Bay

On March 6th, Lowell High School kicked of its 2019 season with a visit to Lincoln High School to battle the as-of-then undefeated Mustangs. Playing under smatterings of rain and gusts of wind, Lowell prevailed against their opponents, winning every match but one. New members James Olson and Vishal Krishnaiah (6-0, 6-0) easily swept Lincoln’s number two doubles team, along with Arlo Novicoff and Alex Lui (6-1, 6-0) who trounced Lincoln’s number three. Seasoned captain Nicholas Morgenstein (6-3, 3-6, 6-4) double faulted quite a bit in his second set but ended up reigning in his Mustang opponent. Perhaps most exciting, however, was the box of post-match donuts supplied by Lincoln’s Coach (a former Lowell coach), which were quickly polished off by both teams.

Unfortunately, Lowell’s full bellies and fighting spirit didn’t last the week. On Friday, March 8th, Lowell lost 2-5 to the Bay School. As an anonymous Lowell player put it, “we played very poorly.” Juniors Jacob Beltran and Josh Wong (6-3, 6-3) however, secured at least some honor for Lowell, playing the entirety of their match quite superbly. Lowell looks forward to a long season ahead.
