ABOUT LOWELL GIRLS SOCCER

A Message to New Students from Girls Varsity Soccer Head Coach

Amber Wilson, Lowell Counseling Dept.

Welcome and congratulations! We hope you will enjoy the many opportunities and challenges at Lowell. If you are interested in playing soccer at Lowell, here are a few things you should know about our program.

Soccer at Lowell has a rich championship tradition built on sportsmanship and academic performance. Some of you want to do several sports, including soccer. You may have to make a choice if the other sport is concurrent with soccer: Soccer is a winter sport that begins with tryouts in November and goes through playoffs in March..

Freshmen compete for a spot on the Varsity roster—there is no Junior Varsity division in San Francisco public high school soccer (Academic Athletic Association).

Lowell players are encouraged to play recreational and competitive club soccer throughout the year; however, when high school soccer (AAA) is in season, players may only compete with their school team.

Soccer players are encouraged to lead a balanced life at Lowell through participating in a variety of extracurricular activities; however, players are expected to select activities that will not conflict with team schedules. We also believe participation in a team sport, like soccer, can help strengthen the student’s transition to life at Lowell through a combination of exercise, the social aspect of the team environment, and encouraging time management skills.

If you are interested, please watch the weekly bulletin for announcements about team informational meetings in September and tryouts in November. Meanwhile, be advised You MUST have a series of completed SFUSD forms in order to participate in tryouts, including signed medical history and examination, risk (liability release/consent), cardiac and concussion information, and anti-steroid policy forms. The forms can be downloaded from the Lowell Athletics website (http://lowellathletics.olinesports.com/Forms), or from the AAA website: (http://cifsf.org/Forms). No participation in physical play permitted without signed, completed forms and shinguards. Shinguards must comply with national regulations that require NOCSAE seal and stamped height range. Also bring cleats and drinking water. We are looking forward to your participation!
