The Lowell Tennis team began its defense of the 2014 San Francisco league title by defeating the Balboa Buccaneers, 5-2. Playing under sunny skies on Balboa’s home courts, the Cardinals jumped out to a quick lead against their opponents, and never looked back. Veteran singles players Ethan Trinh (6-0, 6-0) and Hector Chu (6-1, 6-1) and doubles duo Jonathan Chen and Eli Rudman (6-4, 6-3) set the victory pace with their three quick victories. The younger portion of Lowell’s lineup provided the rest: singles players Sanchez O’Leary (6-1, 4-6, lost tiebreaker), Ryan Wong (6-3, 6-1) and doubles teams Alvin Tom and Joshua Wu (Win) and Daniel Stepanian and Chuck Wong (Loss) gained valuable experience while sealing two more wins for the Cardinals.
